Depending on which list you look at, diseases of the respiratory system are either numbers 4 or 5 on the list of major health concerns in the United States at this time.
And that makes sense when you think about the level of air pollution we live with the aging of the population who were or are smokers, and the level of obesity in this country not only affects the heart, but also pulmonary function.
The most common respiratory diseases fall into a category called Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and the first three are:
