As a certified health coach, giving my family the healthiest start possible is something that It captivates me. To me, that means eating organic is a priority. Simply, I can not bear the thought of having my family consume pesticides and transgenic foods that are supposed to feed them. That said, eating organic can be an expensive lifestyle. For me, it’s all about priorities. health and welfare of my family is a priority for me, so allocate a little more of my family budget to food. But I think money and headaches save on doctor bills more than offset by additional expenditure on organic food.
To make a little less traumatic organic food for your pocket (and in my time / effort), there are some simple strategies that I use that I would share. See below for some ideas that can help incorporate more organic foods in the lifestyle of your family.
- organic coupons are generally not readily available in their regular circular coupon. You have to find them (usually online). Search the Internet for coupons on your favorite brands. - Buying frozen organic products can often be cheaper than buying fresh. If there are staples that you use regularly occur, it is worth comparing the price of fresh vs. frozen. Frozen may also be more convenient and allow you to purchase large quantities every time you see a sale on an item you might use frequently.
- Planning is the key! Plan your meals before gives you a list of clear purchase when you go to the store. This will make you less likely to buy impulsively. I also find it useful to check what’s on sale before you get to my menus / weekly shopping to be sure to incorporate elements that are best deals on my plan for the week.
- is not always possible for everyone, to feed organic 100% of the time. This means you have to prioritize and be sure to buy the organic version of the most toxic elements offensive. I think they have to be organic are meat, dairy products, corn, soy, eggs and products of the “dirty dozen”. - Buy wholesale I use a service that offers 6 months frozen organic meats, produce and pantry items at a time. This not only keeps my low pricing, but also saves me a lot of time. Rarely they have to go to the store, because I have a full selection of meats and produce readily available in my freezer. I also get fresh organic produce delivered weekly. This may sound like a luxury, but I think the time (and gas) saving by having my food served is much greater than the additional cost of the food itself.
