How do sunscreen sticks Naturally;
Now that summer is here, many are preventing the sunscreen as they head to the beach or to spend time outdoors.
However, many (if not all) of sunscreens to find in stores may contain toxic ingredients. These harmful ingredients can greatly affect health, because when applied to the skin, chemicals are absorbed by the body.
Even sunscreens that are labeled as natural can still contain some harmful chemicals. Be sure to check the ingredient list to make sure it is safe to use.
Some of the most harmful ingredients to avoid are:
- Oxybenzone- associated with hormonal disorders, has a high rate of absorption.
- Methoxycinnamate- endocrine disruptor, organ system toxicity
- oxide particles, zinc nano nano scale can easily enter the bloodstream.
- carcinogenic properties of fragrances, hormone disruptor.
- Oil carcinogenic properties
is ironic that doctors insist that everyone use sunscreen to prevent skin cancer, however, many studies have shown that commercial sunscreens contain carcinogens and actually increase the risk of skin cancer.
Making your own sunscreen is a great alternative for those harmful trade. You know I like to do a lot of recipes and natural solutions to myself and one of the main reasons for this is that I like to know what I put in the recipe and know that it is really safe to use.
Although, yes try to get at least 10 to 15 minutes of sunlight per day of vitamin D, there are certain occasions when I use coconut oil or this recipe for sun protection. Especially if I’ll be away for an extended period of time and have a shaded area for shelter.

How to make sun protection Sticks Naturally
- 3 tablespoons olive oil or any other oil (jojoba, almond, etc.)
- 1 tablespoon beeswax or vegetable wax (pellets or scratch yourself)
- 1/2 tablespoon of zinc (preferably non nanoparticle)
- 1/8 tablespoon of vitamin E or essential oil (to act as a preservative) (see below for essential oils)
1. Combine all ingredients except zinc oxide in a small dish or bowl and set aside. (I have a jar to use only natural recipes).
2. Fill a small pot with about one or two cups of water and bring to boil light.
3. Remove from heat and place the small dish with the ingredients in the pot of water.
4. Stir occasionally and let stand until the beeswax is melted.
5. Once the mixture melts, adding zinc oxide and stir well.
6. While still hot, the mixture is poured into a tube for storage (I used a tube empty cocoa butter in the image above). As the mixture cools, the shape of the container will be taken.
How has this SPF sunscreen?
This SPF sunscreen contains about 15-20; however, this is a rough estimate and should be reapplied as needed.
* For this recipe, you can increase the amount of zinc oxide to increase the SPF.
Options essential oil:
For essential oils, you can choose whatever you prefer; However, citrus essential oils can increase sensitivity to sunlight. The following are a few essential oils that contain some natural protection from the sun (a low amount of protection SPF) :. Eucalyptus, lavender oil, carrot seed
Is it waterproof?
If you go swimming or will be in the water, be sure to reapply sunscreen as homemade is not as waterproof as commercial sunscreens.
